Outing-Penns Creek, April 18-21

Apr 18, 2024 3:00PM—Apr 21, 2024 12:00PM

Cost $225.00

Greetings from the Outings desk!

In anticipation of spring and to do something different than what we have always done, TGF invites you to join us for our first outing of the 2024 season. This year, we are traveling to Penns Creek to test this marvelous limestone stream in the heart of Central Pennsylvania. Don’t worry—in May, when it is a tad warmer, we will make our way to the Catskills.

For the extended weekend of April 18–21, we have secured a beautiful riverside retreat in the town of Mifflinberg. As usual, we will have fixings for breakfast and some dinners while we spend days skulking around inconveniencing fish and seeking large mayflies. If you have caught so many fish that you need a respite, you will be able to buy more flies and gear that you  probably don’t need at the local shops.

The house has nine single-occupancy beds, including bunk beds. Be forewarned: the space is short on privacy—except for two rooms—so please be ready to get cordial with other members! Our kitchen and the grill out back will allow some of our TGF chefs de cuisine to prepare lovely repasts when possible.

The cost is a very reasonable $175 per person. Please note that you commit to the total of $175 in signing up, whether you stay one night or three. In keeping with tradition, we also require a $50 donation to the Theodore Gordon Flyfishers Conservation Fund. The TGF Conservation Fund is a restricted fund, with 100 percent of donations used to fund shovel-ready stream restoration projects. TGF has used these funds for projects on the Lopatcong Creek and the Musconetcong, Beaverkill, Battenkill, and Saranac Rivers, to name just a few.

As has been done in the past, the food costs will be split among the folks who join us for meals. Costs have ranged from $35 to $70, depending on how long we have stayed and the meals we have prepared. We will determine the food expense and who is owed what during the outing, so you will need a little cash. We will dine out for at least one night and try to secure dinner reservations. When we dine out, these costs are separate and not included in the food costs.

Please join us for this memorable trip and for our other outings scheduled for the upcoming season. It is always great to get together and fish. Outings are an opportunity to meet and connect with other TGF members, make new friends, and create unforgettable new fishing memories and stories.

We hope you can join us!
